(LANSING, MICH.)Mycharityevent.com co-founders Jeff Hock and Chris Carter today announced that plans have been formalized for a mountain bike charity event through Southeast Asia to help raise money and awareness of the effects of landmines on the population. Hock, Carter and others plan to bicycle 800 kilometers (540 miles) from Bangkok, Thailand, to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam, from December 18, 2000, through January 1, 2001.
The intentions of the trip are for Hock and Carter to see the impact of landmines on the population first hand and to raise funds for Landmine Clearance International, a non-profit organization committed to the removal of landmines worldwide. This organizations objective is to train people how to remove landmines. "We chose this organization because they have a low overhead and they are getting at the core of the problem." Carter said.
Hock and Carter, two Michigan residents and Michigan State University graduates, with a keen interest in providing charity services, are aware about possible hazards of the trip. Land mines are a real threat, stated Carter. So is political uncertainty, border crossings, and any type of injuryathletically related or otherwise. But, we want to see the impact that landmines and warfare have caused to the region, and hope to help the affected people along the way.
Donations and sponsorships of the event can be made, and those interested are encouraged to visit the website http://www.mycharityevent.com/contribute/index.htm for details on how to become involved in this important venture. Friends of Motorola were nice enough to donate two Talkabout fr60 radios, which will be raffled off to one lucky contributor. In addition, friends from Fusiontel Communications were able to donate $100 worth of International Calling Cards, which will also be raffled off. There is a $10 minimum donation in order for someone to qualify for the raffle.
The co-founders are expecting 100,000 hits on the website for the mountain bike event. Mycharityevent.com was developed by Carter and Hock to help charities raise money for their causes by providing for charity events specific on-line services, including sponsorships, promotions, pictures, and event information.
