A mine clearance project requires support from civil
engineers, mechanics, maintenance staff, and medics.
The LCI curriculum mandates training additional
personnel in each of those occupations. We hope that by
helping to create a community of capable, dedicated
support staff around each LCI project that we will be able
to provide valuable human resources to all government
and non-governmental organizations in the region. Most
importantly, LCI aims to contribute to sustainable
economic rehabilitation by building a body of
professionals who can serve communities after the
landmines are gone.
We demand an excruciating standard of professional
expertise from our international trainers because, like the
local de-miners, each member of the local support staff is
expected not only to serve in the capacity for which he or
she has been trained, but to teach others to do so as well.
A comprehensive LCI training program provides the
building blocks with which an ambitious, national mine
action program can be built.
